Client preparation for bed bugs:
To Prepare:
Clear tops and empty nightstands, end tables and dressers. We will be turning this upside to treat.
Pull items at least 6” inches away from baseboards to allow treatment.
Remove pets.
Do not:
Place items on beds
Store items under beds.
Mattress and box spring should be covered with a bite proof cover (allerzip bite proof bedding encasement) we can get them if we have the dimensions. Only bite proof, escape proof covers are worth using. The cost of the covers is extra.
-
Beds and box springs SHOULD BE COVERED WITH BITE PROOF COVERS
-
Items, which need to be laundered, should be sealed in trash bags. Wash in hot water or run thru hot dryer cycle for 10 minutes. Stuffed animals, sneakers, backpacks etc… can be run thru the dryer.
-
Do not throw out bed or furniture unless they are wrapped in plastic and taken completely out of the structure.
-
Do not change where you sleep. The bugs will follow thus spreading the problem.
-
Launder bedding regularly at high heat.
-
Pull beds away from walls and dressers so they do not contact anything.
Eliminate cluttered / crowded conditions. The more cluttered the more difficult to treat.
Bed bug treatment is a difficult undertaking. Generally three treatments are needed, more if the infestation is large.
The overall success of the treatment depends on cooperation.
Bedding, clothing, pillows, bed spreads should all be washed or run through a 10 minute or more heat cycle on the dryer. Anything removed from apartment should be bagged and taped prior to removal to dryer or washer. All preparations should be done when by the time we arrive.
Stay out for a minimum of three hours after treatment or until everything is dry!
